From Humble Beginnings to a Retail Powerhouse
In 1954, a small retail store opened its doors in Port Shepstone, KwaZulu-Natal, making just under two pounds on its first day. This modest start didn’t deter the founders. Instead, it revealed something far more valuable—the unwavering support of the local community. That early connection shaped a simple but powerful philosophy: serve the community, and success will follow.

Rooted in Community, Growing with Purpose
Bargain Wholesalers didn’t just grow; it flourished by expanding into Harding, Izingolweni, Port Edward, Mtwalume, Manaba, Bizana, and Flagstaff. Two supermarkets in Port Shepstone and Izingolweni further extended its reach. Today, the Bargain Group is a trusted name across the lower South Coast and Transkei, bringing affordable household essentials closer to thousands of South Africans.

Pioneering the Hybrid Wholesale-Retail Model
As customer expectations shifted, Bargain Group saw an opportunity. Why choose between wholesale savings and retail convenience? In 2009, the first hybrid store opened in Flagstaff, blending bulk buying with a vibrant retail experience. Customers now enjoy everything from electronics and non-food items to fresh deli, bakery, butchery, and produce departments—all under one roof.

A Store Designed for the Future
By 2012, the Flagstaff store had transformed into a world-class shopping destination, combining value, variety, and service. The enthusiastic response proved the concept’s success and set the stage for further expansion.
